"Most people here know me as The Crimson Hunter. But, seeing our relation, I think you should call me by my real name. Just call me Charles Bob Leonard!."
~ Charles to Triangle and Monkey

Charles Bob Leonard, or "The Crimson Hunter", is a major antagonist in the Triangle vs. Monkey series, serving as the main antagonist of season 1, the secondary antagonist of season 2, and a supporting protagonist of season 3.

Biography

Season 1

Leonard was hired by Mecha Kong and promised a sum of one million dollars to hunt Triangle and Monkey after the two escaped their Biome. He constantly tracks the two with his pack of robotic dog-like creatures, following them from universe to universe. His shadow is first seen inspecting a footprint left from Triangle in the Jurassic Park Universe. His first official appearance, however, is in the Transformers Universe, overlooking the wreckage caused by the two Kaijus.

Triangle and Monkey captured by Charles

The main characters finally meet him in an Unnamed Forest Biome, where they are ambushed by his robotic minions and subsequently captured in a box-like force-field by the bounty hunter. Leonard expresses disappointment about how easy they were to catch and informs them that his employer wants them dead. The hunter is enraged when Triangle blasts a hole through the ground and he and Monkey fall into a tunnel system. Leonard wastes no time in following them and immediately begins open fire. To his frustration, his prey manages to slip away, portalling into another dimension. Mecha Kong contacts him via his mechanical arm brace, detecting the universe leap, and instructs Leonard to wait for them at the Biomes and ensure that "there's no home for them to return to".

After a series of universe hops, Triangle and Monkey (unknowingly accompanied by Legendary's Mecha Triangle) return to the Biomes, where they are detected by Charles. Triangle is caught in an energy trap after recklessly attempting to sneak up on the bounty hunter, and Monkey, attempting to rescue him, is easily beaten. An airship full of Foot Soldiers lands, now holding the main characters at gunpoint. They request instructions from Leonard who tells them to wait for his signal and ready the 'rocket troopers'. The Crimson Hunter seems to have made this hunt somewhat personal and reveals his real name to Triangle and Monkey: "Charles Bob Leonard ". He becomes annoyed and defensive when the two kaijus take this with humor and tell him to stick with 'Crimson Hunter.' Leonard then instructs the soldiers to destroy Triangle and Monkey's Biome, to the two's utter horror and to his sadistic amusement as the kaiju's home falls apart in front of them. Leonard revels in the destruction while Triangle swears his revenge.

Triangle being threatened by Charles

It is here where Leonard learns that Triangle and Monkey don't remember their past lives before they were imprisoned in the cube Biome, and where he reveals to the main characters that the Biome they just destroyed was a prison, and that it wasn't even the real Monster-Verse. He becomes almost angry that he is the only one to know anything despite not even being present when the events occurred, not yet aware that the kaijus' memories had been wiped intentionally prior to imprisonment. Leonard loses his patience and demands they hand over the remote they have been using to universe hop, telling them it's the only thing keeping them alive. When Monkey claims that he is lying to get them to give him the device, Leonard promptly shoots him in the shoulder. The bounty hunter gives them till the count of three to hand it over but is interrupted when the stowaway Mecha attacks a robotic soldier, giving Monkey a chance to free Triangle.

For some unknown reason, Mecha Triangle allows Triangle and Monkey to escape without harming them, but the distracted Mecha, powering down upon noticing Triangle, is attacked by Lennard , who manages to shoot off its arm and cause it to retreat. The bounty hunter then enters an airship and quickly pursues an escaping Triangle and Monkey, shooting at them from above, intending to kill them and take the remote. However, the ship is burnt in half by Triangles atomic breath. Leonard survives, but one robotic arm is lost in the crash. The other half of the ship knocked both Triangle and Monkey off a cliff. Leonard remarks, "good riddance", incorrectly assuming that the two must have died falling from such a height, unaware of the important writer's device known as 'plot armor.'

Season 2

Lennard 's lost arm has been replaced by a new yellow one. He is first seen when the newly introduced Arkadi Ivanov (the apparent owner of the Foot Soldiers) greets him as 'Leonard', which The Crimson Hunter responds by saying that he prefers to be referred as Charles, but Ivanov doesn't care.

He is next seen making conversation with Ivanov, about how nobody in the concepts town has ever seen the developer and asks Ivanov if he can tell him what the mysterious character actually looks like. Ivanov responds with a firm no. He then asks if Ivanov knows when the next Kanye album is dropping, to which an exasperated Ivanov asks him to "please shut up." Mecha Kong then enters the room and tells Ivanov to continue with 'Project Reset.' Leonard's curiosity is peaked, and he asks about the project, but the Mecha refuses to tell him anything and threatens him with losing more than just his pay if he isn't careful. Leonard says he understands, but his interest remains.

Season 3

Leonard and Arkadi Ivanov butt heads. Ivanov claims they would not be in this mess if Leonard had done his job properly, and Leonard blames Ivanov for intentionally keeping important information from him. They seem to mutually dislike each other. When Leonard asks what Mecha Kong and Ivanov's actual plan is, the latter still refuses to tell him, and says Leonard is the last person he would keep inside the loop. Their argument is cut short by Mecha Kong, who tells Leonard he would like to speak to Ivanov- alone. Leonard sarcastically notes that it's like he has a choice. The Mecha threatens him, and he finally leaves. Leonard seems to genuinely dislike Mecha Kong, but he seems willing to work for him for the money.

He overhears two robotic soldiers in what looks like some kind of control room. It appears that they can track the router from there, explaining how Mecha Kong knew whenever Monkey and Triangle jumped to another universe. The soldiers wonder why the titans are not being intercepted and speculate that they are being lured into a trap. After the soldiers leave, Leonard enters and sees the exact location of the router- telling him exactly where Monkey, Triangle, and Noodle Neck are.

He finds them in a barren Desert-like Biome, where the Kaijus are taking the opportunity to rest and recover now that they have finally found a safe universe. Monkey and Triangle react, understandably, with hostility, while Noodle Neck has never actually met Leonard before. He proudly introduces himself as the Crimson Hunter, but Triangle and Monkey want to hear his full name again, 'Charles Bob Leonard ', which they find hilarious. A disgruntled Leonard then tells them he wants to talk, but Monkey decides to fight him, and the others join in. Leonard dodges the blows and uses his gadgets to neutralize their attacks. Monkey manages to land a solid punch to the face, but Leonard uses a grappling hook to knock him and Noodle Neck over with Triangle. As the three face him again, however, he puts away his gun, knowing he couldn't take down all three of them alone. He reiterates that he just wants to talk to them, but they are skeptical. Monkey reminds him about the time the bounty hunter shot him in the arm. Leonard sarcastically asks if he wants a gift basket and an apology.

Leonard explains that he was hired to hunt them, but he no longer trusts his employers, and doesn't even know if he will receive his money. He then proposes a solution to both of their problems. He explains that while Mecha Kong would love to kill them, what he really wants is the router. He says that if they give him the router, the hunt stops, he will take them to a "nice cube where you can live out the rest of your lives happily," then he will make up a story about how he was able to steal the device and they disappeared before he could catch them. He gets his money, Mecha gets his router, and the three get their freedom. Monkey and Noodle Neck don't seem all that opposed to the idea, but Triangle immediately refuses. Leonard is confused- this is the best deal they could possibly get. He says that if Triangle wants some advice, he should take the deal right now. Triangle tells him he should get as far away from his bosses as possible. Charles, frustrated but unable to sway him, opens a portal with his mechanical arm guard. Before leaving, he says the offer still stands, but hints that they may not have a chance to take it again.

Leonard later watches intently as Mecha Kong talks to Triangle, Monkey and Noodle Neck, who had been drawn into a trap after being sent a message to meet the Mecha, who had apparently captured their friend Mowcuss Melish to use as a bargaining chip. He seems intrigued as to whether Triangle will hand over the remote. Triangle threatens to destroy the device, even with Mowcuss under threat, but Noodle Neck, afraid to lose the lizard, throws it to the Mecha. It is revealed that Mowcuss is not only on the enemy's side, but he's the Developer himself, leading the Militia, and that Mecha Kong actually works for him- this shocks Charles. Mowcuss had only taken Noodle Neck in out of pity, and thinking he could be useful, meaning that all the time the three thought they were hidden, the Militia was really in control. After Triangle, Monkey, and Noodle Neck attack the snipers and slip away, Charles, along with Ivanov and Mecha are enlisted by Mowcuss to hunt them down. Leonard is unsuccessful in this.

Leonard is next seen silently observing as Triangle threatens Mowcuss to tell him where Mecha Kong is. He hears as Mowcuss figures out why Triangle is alone- he pushed away his friends, who didn't approve of his 'revenge-quest.' He watches as Triangle is beaten up by the newly repaired and enhanced Mecha Triangle Prime, and subsequently overhears as the Developer finally reveals what project reset really is: a plan to destroy the entire concepts domain and everyone in it with the press of a button, so that any new arriving concepts will know nothing but his rule. Leonard presumably also sees Triangle being blasted away by the Mecha and being assumed dead.

Leonard is next seen being approached by Mecha Kong, who, despite Charles' previous mistrust, presents him with his promised one million, and he is told to leave and take his dogs with him. Leonard and Ivanov make eye contact, and the other robotic soldier tells him to 'go on.' Leonard briefly holds his gaze before leaving, and Ivanov and Mecha Kong share a smile being his back.

Personality

Leonard is a skilled, cunning and ruthless bounty hunter, not above hunting and tormenting people who have done nothing to him. To contrast this, he can be hilariously awkward and is considered irritating by characters like Ivanov and Mecha Kong. He is plainly curious about the information withheld from him by his higher-ups, a quality that causes him to be disliked by them. Not one to continue along a path that is not working, Leonard resorts to quietly observing get the information he desires. He is opportunistic, and ready to deal with even his enemies if there is something in it for him.

Leonard can be easily angered or frustrated when someone makes fun of his real, full name, or if someone acts very obnoxiously (in his opinion), as he is seen being irritated by Monkey’s childish behavior and personality when Triangle and Monkey were captured by The Militia and Leonard at The Biomes.

He is not completely evil, however, as his conscience was against the idea of Project Reset's mass genocide initiative, causing him to turn against the Militia and help Monkey and Triangle destroy the router.

Abilities and Skills

I thought you'd be harder to catch, I mean, to be fair i had to travel over three universes to find you but, I was expecting more of a hunt.
~ Lennard to a trapped Triangle and Monkey.

Leonard is a skilled bounty hunter, trained in all forms of combat. He is resilient and is capable of quick decision-making while fighting, often giving him an edge. On top of this, he carries many different weapons and tools, causing him to be prepared for every scenario. Some of these tools are built into his suit, allowing him to use them at a moment's notice.

Gadgets

Leonard possesses an arsenal of technological weaponry that he utilizes during conflicts. These gadgets often give him an edge against his enemies, as well as giving him the element of surprise when faced with an opponent unfamiliar with the design of his technology. Some of these gadgets are hidden in the folds of his cloak or in his arm braces, but some seem built into his suit so that he can bring them out as he sees fit.

Force-field cage

Leonard possesses a gun-like instrument, from which he can fire a small device at his opponents from a hidden location. The device then rapidly conjures a red force field that cannot be breached, forming a cube-like cage around his opponent, trapping them. This then allows him to approach them without fear of being attacked.

Shield

Leonard can conjure a shield from his arm made of the same red energy as the force-field cage. This shield is built into his arm guard, and it seems he can trigger it by bringing his arm out in front of his body. This shield is highly effective, able to completely block even Triangle's deadly atomic breath.

Knuckle shock-guards

Like the shield, Leonard's knuckle-guards are built-in, sliding over his knuckles when he needs them. He uses them to stun an enemy when fighting in close combat, forcing them to loosen their grip.

Sticking explosive disk

Leonard can fire a small disk from his arm guard that sticks to an enemy and emits a rapid beeping sound. After roughly a second, the disk will explode. This explosion did not cause lasting injury to the explosion-resistant Triangle but would likely be much deadlier to a less armored opponent.

Grappling hook

Leonard can fire a grappling hook from his arm guard, which can be used to wrench weapons from the hands of an enemy. He also uses this to grab onto objects and knock over enemies with them.

Marksmen Skills

Leonard is skilled with a gun and is shown to have impeccable aim.

Weaknesses

As fun as this is, I'd be an idiot to think I could take all three of you down by myself.
~ Lennard admitting his unlikely chance of defeating Triangle, Monkey, and Noodle Neck.

Leonard has few apparent weaknesses. However, he has his limitations, recognizing himself that he can't win a fight while outnumbered three to one. He also often finds it difficult to convince others to share information or agree to a deal, as he is seen as untrustworthy thanks to his nature as an easily bribed bounty hunter. As a human, he is prone to physical injury, despite his armored suit, seen when his left arm was blown off in an airship crash.

Relationships

Leonard has few positive relationships. This is due to his treacherous, untrustworthy, and sometimes irritating nature.

Monkey

It's like I said. I just want to talk.
Monkey
Talk shmalk, you shot me in the arm!
The Crimson Hunter
Oh what, you wanted me to make you a little gift basket and apologise?

Arkadi Ivanov

Charles Bob Lennard
I'm just curious, does anyone actually like you?
Arkadi Ivanov
If it were up to me, you wouldn't get a cent of your money!

Leonard and Ivanov share a largely negative relationship and have a mutual hatred for each other. They regularly argue, with Ivanov intentionally withholding important information from Leonard, and Leonard going behind his back in defiance. It seems that they cannot reside in the same room without bickering unless Mecha Kong is with them. Ivanov seems to find Leonard annoying and displeasing to be around, and Leonard greatly dislikes Ivanov and holds no respect for him.

Trivia

  • Originally thought to be a robotic being, in Season 3 his visor was broken, revealing a regular human eye behind it indicating he is actually a human in sci-fi armor.
  • This character was named by fans, a large number of which used the word 'Crimson,' leading to the title of 'the Crimson Hunter.' The name Charles Bob Leonard, however, was chosen for its funny and non-threatening sound, contrasting the bounty hunter's malicious nature. [1]
  • Blunt Brothers Productions wished he had given The Crimson Hunter a Russian accent. [2] This lead to the creation of Arkadi Ivanov because of it.
  • During a discussion with Mecha Kong, Mecha Kong mentions Leonard and his “little towns folk” (people of The Concepts Domain City). This suggests that Leonard might have been a forgotten or failed concept by someone from the Real World.
  • The Crimson Hunter's last name spelling has had two official variations:
    • The first being 'Leonard', by Blunt Brothers Productions & the 100k comment contest winner.
    • the second being ‘Lenard’, from the official Triangle Vs. Monkey coloring pages.
      • (Although it was previously thought to be 'Lennard')
  • Aside from his eye, the Crimson Hunter's face is never seen.
